Timescales and Process

You will be considered a temporary member of the Security Institute as soon as we have received your application form. The Validation Board of the Security Institute meets monthly to review all applications for membership.  Their recommendations are subject to acceptance by the Main Board of Directors. Once membership has been confirmed, you will be contacted by the Membership Manager, confirming your grade and welcoming you to the Security Institute.  We aim to complete all applications within 8 weeks of receipt.

Should you be unsuccessful in your application, or should the Institute require further information or corroboration, then you will be contacted by the Membership Manager or a representative of the Validation Board.

Security screening to BS7858 is the minimum standard required by the Security Institute in respect of all membership applicants.

If you are a serving Police Officer or a member of the UK Armed Forces, no further screening checks are required.

If you have any of the following pre-existing screening in place and this can be evidenced, the Security Institute will not undertake additional screening:

SIA Licence

National Security Vetting (including SC and DV)

Baseline Personnel Security Standard (BPSS)

If you do not have current pre-existing screening in place the Security Institute will arrange screening to BS7858 through its engaged screening provider.

We are actively involved in many events and exhibitions in the security world. If you would like to see where you can meet us then check out our latest events:
