Vendors sell computer vision and machine learning as an easy answer\, but one crucial question gets overlooked: how does the person watching the screens actually react when the machine flags something? \nDrawing on frontline experience running security at Manchester’s AO Arena and in hostile oil and gas regions across the Sahel\, Martin Lynch’s research examines what really happens when an operator meets an AI prompt under pressure. He looks at the thinking traps\, such as over-trusting the system and fixating on the first thing seen\, that shape split-second decisions with complex data feeds in high-stress conditions. \nThe aim is practical: to cut through the sales pitch and help security teams use these tools well under Martyn’s Law. \nSpeakers: \nMartin Lynch is the Head of Security for Manchester’s AO Arena. The Arena has seen a paradigm shift in its security operations during his stewardship\, including comprehensive changes in the use of technology. Martin holds a Master’s degree in counter terrorism. \nSolving real-world security problems brought Martin to the University of Portsmouth\, where he is in the final year of a doctorate in security risk management. He co-chairs The Security Institute’s Special Interest Group on Converged Security and is a Chartered Security Professional\, ASIS-certified CPP\, published author\, senior lecturer and current Irish OSPA winner for Outstanding Security Consultant. \nChris Worthy spent 36 years working for the UK Government in a wide range of national security roles\, including three years at the British Embassy in Washington liaising with US agencies and helping establish the Defending Democracy Ministerial Taskforce. He now advises academia and companies on resilience to state threats and is a Visiting Professor at Coventry University Protective Security Laboratory. \nKatie Barnett is Director of Cyber Security at Toro Solutions. With more than 20 years’ experience in IT and cyber security\, she helps organisations understand and manage risk through practical\, proportionate security strategies. Her expertise spans security reviews\, ISO 27001\, Cyber Essentials\, incident response and security governance. \nGavin Wilson is Director of Physical Security & Risk at Toro Solutions.
