SyI Special Interest Groups

The Security Institute Special Interest Groups initiative is being led by the Standards Directorate, under the overall leadership of Vice-Chairman Doug Cook. It is hoped that as many members as possible will actively contribute a small amount of time and a large amount of expertise to these Groups, thus ensuring that their experience, training and qualifications can be utilised for the benefit of the wider security community.

We will also be encouraging other specialist organisations to work with us, and we look forward to supporting and developing these links. We believe we don't need to have all the answers ourselves, but we need to know who does, and be able to promulgate that information for the benefit of all.

The objectives of these groups include some or all of the following:

  • To place the Institute at the centre of the development of best practice for the UK Security profession
  • To establish liaison with other relevant groups also involved in this type of activity, eg. BSIA, SfS, BSI, ASIS International, IPSA, etc.
  • Through membership engagement, to develop pools of expertise within the Institute
  • To feed best practice into the SyI Diploma and Certificate projects, via the Academic Board
  • To produce good practice guides for use across the security profession. This initiative is being led by Security Institute Director Jerry Woods FSyI, who can be contacted on Jerry.Woods@bristol.ac.uk . Specialist teams are currently working on Risk Management and CCTV, with other subjects planned for 2011.

The two Members Forums established and currently planning meetings for 2011 are
