But, NOS are not mandatory, are completely free and are developed specifically by the industry for the industry All applications to join the Security Institute are considered in depth by the Validation Board. Appointed by the Board of Directors, this team of highly skilled professionals considers the nature and extent of the applicant's experience and determines the validity of qualifications. It then recommends each applicant to an appropriate category of membership, for consideration and approval by the Main Board. Message from the Chairman on 1st January 2008

Today marks the formal merger of the Security Institute and the International Institute of Security, and the members of the Institute's Board join me in sending New Year greetings to all Security Institute members on this momentous date in the history of the UK's security profession.  We have ambitious targets and high expectations for the Institute, and with the help of the members, we will fulfil and meet them all. In the coming year, please take part, join in, and work with the Board, working groups and individuals who are striving to bring ever-higher standards of professionalism to the business of security.  I look forward to meeting each member in the coming year, as we take professionalism forward together.

With very best wishes,

Bill Wyllie, Chairman
