The Validation Process
The Validation Board has a hard job to do. It must understand enough about the qualifications and experience of all applicants, so that it can recommend fair grading levels for everyone choosing to join the Security Institute.
It is therefore important that each member of the Validation Board brings a wealth of knowledge and experience with them, becoming part of a carefully balanced team.
The Board is drawn from a wide range of security professionals representing all parts of the industry, covering:
- Academia
- Corporate Security Management
- Government
- Security Contractors
- Security Consultancy
- Security Service Providers
- Other Security Organisations
So what actually happens?
Each application is acknowledged, and a control number allocated to preserve anonymity. Draft scoring is then prepared by the Validation Board Secretary (see Scoring Matrix : Issue 2) and presented at the next Validation Board meeting, together with an explanation of the rationale.
The Validation Board review the scoring, and using their collective experience, discuss and agree the scores achieved in four sections - experience, qualifications, training and other contributions. The resulting total equates to a level of membership, and the minutes of the Validation Board are circulated to the Main Board for approval.
Once approval has been gained, the Validation Board Administrator contacts the applicants to confirm their membership. Copies of membership certificates, ID badges, and complimentary literature will follow.
When is the next Validation Board?
VB meetings are held on the last Tuesday every month, usually in or around London, and are currently planned for the following dates:
