10.08.07 : New Events Chairman for SyI

"SyI Appoints new Events Sub-Committee Chairman"

Wanting to build on the 12 member events organised in 2006, SyI has formed an Events Sub-Committee to be responsible for co-ordinating all event activity for the Institute. This group will be Chaired by Steve Betts MSyI.

Steve, who is Head of Security and Health and Safety for TNT Post, joined the Institute in November 2004. He is a former Metropolitan Police officer, who has also worked in senior security management positions for the Post Office, and run a manned guarding company. He is an avid supporter of the Institute, and became a Director of SyI when he was elected onto its managing Council in March 2007.

He believes that events for members and potential members, including educational, fundraisers and social events, are the life blood of the Security Institute. It is vital therefore that these are well planned, publicised and delivered to the highest level. He welcomes the opportunity of bringing his professional expertise and drive to the Sub-Committee, believing members should be looking at what they can do for the Institute, not what it can do for them.

SyI members joining Steve on the Events Sub-Committee are Donna Alexander (Barclays), Ashley Wilce (Transport for London), Tony Pratt (Legal Search), Don Grimes (Be Prepared), Lee Garner (Ramesses Group), Chris Brogan (Security International), Patricia Knight (Receptors), David Hopps (Universal Guardian), Nigel Churton (Control Risks) and Di Thomas (Security Institute General Manager). Steve says:

"I have the pleasure of chairing this group and from the first meeting held last week I am confident that we will succeed. The Events Sub-Committee will now pull together all the events for the remainder of 2007 and more importantly some very exciting events for 2008.

I am particularly pleased to have Tony, Lee and Don on board; Tony is based in the Sheffield, Don in Bath and Lee in Runcorn, and they will provide us with a focus outside London, with a view to making us less London centric and provide the members with events across the UK."
