17.04.07: New Vice-Chairman Appointed
"At their recent meeting, the Council of the Security Institute elected its Officers for the coming Institute year. Bill Wyllie was re-elected as Chairman, and David Gill of Linx International became Vice-Chairman.
In commenting on his election, Bill Wyllie said: "The year past has been one of great success for the Institute, and as we move into the coming year we share a sense of excitement at the new initiatives that await us. We will consolidate our existing successes, but will also move forward with our drive for chartered status, our involvement with associated professional associations, and our work with the SIA and Skills for Security - especially the new Register of Security Professionals. We have 5 new Council members, and are looking forward to the dynamism and fresh approaches that they will bring to running the Institute. But the Institute is no more than the sum total of its members, and I urge all of those members to participate fully in helping us to achieve our vision of enhancing the professionalism and profile of the business of security".
David Gill added "I am delighted and privileged to have been appointed Vice Chair of The Security Institute. I wish to pay tribute to my predecessor Stewart Kidd; Stewart has been a major contributor to the Institute's fantastic success and on behalf of the membership, we thank him for his unstinting support.
Building on the Institute's solid foundation, I hope to help raise the profile of the Institute which is not just about the higher echelons of the security profession; I am particularly keen to help develop a mentoring program for the less experienced wanting to develop their career in security and also to encourage international interest, whilst maintaining our stringent validation process.
The ultimate goal is for the Institute to attain chartered status - clearly exciting times lie ahead for the Institute and I am honoured to be part of the executive team."
